Lake Appoint new Managing Director

Lake is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Dolan to the position of Managing Director, effective as of 1st November 2010.

Paul started his Lake career in 1996 as a junior engineer and has progressed through the ranks holding various positions, the most recent being Support Director, a position he has held since 2002.

Paul said “I am very excited about leading the company and driving the business forward to achieve all of our goals, especially with our established reputation for delivering a quality service to our customers, which is underpinned by the drive, enthusiasm and expertise of our people”.

Paul was also quick to pay tribute to his predecessor and founder of the business, Pete Dobson, who has been his close friend and mentor for the past 15 years. He was also full of praise for the hard work and loyalty of the entire Lake team.

Pete Dobson has taken up the position of Chairman of Lake and he is very much looking forward to spending more time in his new role exploring how we can continue to develop existing relationships and furthering new business opportunities.

Paul has been with me for almost 15 years and has been instrumental in Lake’s continuing success; especially the building and developing of our current team. Paul has put together a dedicated professional team with a strong sense of ‘family’ values. Lake is truly a fun place to be! Handing over the reigns is normally a difficult step, but Paul has been fulfilling the role for some time now, so this is the logical next step. Paul has my total confidence and support, and I am excited about the future. We have ambitious plans and I look forward to us delivering them together."

A weekend away in Llangollen with Lake’s team, little did they know what lay in wait.

After a warm and cheerful night we spent together at the Wild Pheasant Hotel, followed by a full English breakfast the following morning, the team headed to JJRaft Canoe, on the Banks of the River Dee in Llangollen and felt something they had never felt before, the uncontrollable urge to take a blind, dangerous and bold risk.

With temperatures dropping down to just 5 Degrees Celsius, without hesitation we carried our individual kayaks down to the treacherous banks of the River Dee (the perfect place to come in Wales for adventure activities) and boldly took to the water for the first time. After listening to the health and safety briefing, we embraced the coldness and immediately got hooked.

It was a breath taking sensation to feel the sheer speed and power of the running water, while paddling through white water rapids with the freezing water being only one layer of rubber away from our flesh. Feeling the sunshine and breeze on our faces, the team tackled the white water rapids with their usual sense of adventure and the looks on some of our faces were somewhat indescribable.

Next came the White Water Rafting, what a scream!! After the usual safety briefing we set off in two rafts. The more sensible members of the team had spotted that one of the instructors had a mad look in his eyes and quickly scrambled onto the other raft. Those left wondering what they had let themselves in for with the “Mad” Instructor didn’t have to wait long to find out. Suffice to say that one of the rafts spent most of it’s time upside down and the team on that Raft spent most of their time in the water, and had an absolute ball!

But it’s not just about the rush, there were some tender moments too, not least of all when our Chairman was tipped out of the “sensible” raft and two members of the team galvanised into action remembering their safety briefing to rescue him from under the boat and pull him into the relative safety of the raft. Both the Kayaking and Rafting were an unforgettable experience for the whole team, filled with excitement and fun.

After a long thrill filled day at JJRaft Canoe, it was time to get ourselves warm and dry just in time for an evening meal at The Corn Mill. A lovely evening meal was enjoyed by all with many laughs and even more drinks! We also kept the hotel staff busy until the early hours, running back and forth to the bar!! The whole team enjoyed breakfast together at the hotel and having had a great weekend, headed back home on Sunday afternoon. We are all looking forward to the next event, although there have been a few requests for a Dry weekend next time! We’ll see!
